Back in the country, but still living out of a suitcase. Not that I’m complaining – this week I started as an NBC Directing Fellow on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” shadowing guest director Alex Chapple. The good people at NBC have put me up in New York while I’m here shadowing.
To get selected as a fellow, I first had to be nominated by producers until they got 100 nominees. Those 100 nominees had to send in a reel and other materials, and then the nominees were winnowed down to five finalists. Those five were sent to the two NBC shows participating, and they could select a fellow to shadow for a few episodes.
So, with a little luck and good fortune, a producer at “Law & Order: SVU” called me in December to tell me I could start when I got back from the around-the-world honeymoon.I started this past Friday and will be shadowing for the better part of March and again this spring. I don’t think I can post too much detail about the show’s inner workings, but I’ll try to update as much as I can.
I can report, with great certainty, that the people here are incredibly nice. Especially Alex who I’m shadowing and has directed more than 20 episodes in the “Law & Order” franchise.
More to report in the days and weeks ahead!
